Sonar Tells You Where Something Is. Hyperspectral Tells You What It Is.
At Benthic Spectral Inc., we're advancing underwater hyperspectral imaging (UHI) systems rated to transform non-invasive seafloor exploration, from deep-sea minerals to marine archaeology.
Our compact, ROV/AUV/Sled-deployable HyperCam captures detailed spectral signatures that reveal what standard RGB imaging cannot see: mineral composition, benthic habitats, and subtle cultural features on the seafloor.
To accelerate innovation, we're actively building a comprehensive AI-trained spectral image library. Using high-resolution hyperspectral datasets and state-of-the-art machine learning, this database will support:
Precise identification and mapping of marine minerals and cultural artifacts on the seafloor.
Low-impact to zero-disturbance monitoring for offshore energy, conservation, and cultural heritage reservation projects worldwide.
We're especially eager to expand the library with samples from marine archaeological impact assessments and marine minerals. If your team has datasets you'd like to include in our datasets (with full credit and permission, of course), please get in touch with us to discuss collaboration. We would also welcome any materials you would like analyzed via UHI and added to our library for future projects.
Obtaining as many polymetallic nodules, seafloor sulfides, marine minerals, and crusts as possible from marine mineral surveying partners and clients is also encouraged. The more diverse our library, with samples from different regions and depths, the better our AI becomes for identification.
